Inside the mind of a Master Procastinator!
Procastination hacks (that actually work)
okay, most of you are probably wondering what the hell is procastination?!
So to answer you guys, in a simple way: remember the time when once you were going to do a project and when you went on Google to search something but saw this cute picture of a koala and 20 mins later ended up on the wikipedia page of How Stree, Munjya and Bhedia are all connected!
yup, we all did it.
You may call it DISTRACTION but we call it Procastination where you avoid the stuff that really matters and end up doing something totally absurd and unuseful.
So what can you do?
Here are a few steps:
1). Use the Pomodoro technique
'Pomodoro kitty' is an online website for particularly this reason! You set up a time for a task say 25 mins, do that with absolutely no distractions and then after that take a small break for 5-10 mins where you can go for a walk, call a friend or maybe just take a power nap! But DON'T use your phone(trust me, you'll never get out of that loop) Do something where your brain can chillax.(and you too!)
After the break, again do your task and that goes on..this method's way better than boring your mind out for 2 hours straight and then watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S till you fall asleep(yeah, i did that too)
2). Reward yourself
Don't stress yourself out! Reward yourself with little treats so that even you feel like working. Like, I get excited at even the smallest of things, so my brain goes: let's quickly finish studying this chp because mummy's making vanga chi bhaji!(and i LOVE vanga)
3). Break into smaller tasks
Breaking a big task into small steps is like tricking your brain into thinking it’s no big deal. Instead of facing “write a whole report” (yikes!), you can tackle tiny, bite-sized steps like “find one article,” “make a quick outline,” or “just write the intro.” It’s like saying, “I’m not writing a report; I’m just researching a little.”
Plus, each time you finish a tiny step, you feel like a productivity legend:)
No overwhelm, no panic—just little wins that add up until, whoa, you’ve finished the whole thing without even realizing it. Bonus: it’s way harder to procrastinate on “just one paragraph” than on “THE ENTIRE PROJECT".
4). Avoid doing work just before the deadline
We all do it, and WE ALL REGRET IT
5). Use apps to lock up your phone
There are some really cool apps called 'Forest' which can lock up your phone(except for emergency calls ofc) so that you can't distract yourself till your task is complete.
That's it!
Now, go and complete your work because I know you're procastinating!!
Also, one last thing..the only source for my knowledge on this topic is this video: this concept is totally awesome and I'm sure you're gonna love it!(whenever you watch the video, make sure to leave a comment!)
