My First Time as the DM
My first D&D campaign
D&D or Dungeons and Dragons is an EPIC fantasy role-playing game and all it needs is character sheets, dice and none other than your imagination!
I got to know about this from the TV series Stranger Things and The Big Bang Theory, and after seeing these guys playing it, I HAD to get the game. Most of my friends didn't know about it(not a very common game in India) so it was difficult to find people to play with. When two of my friends and my sister agreed, we set a date and time and voila! The Game Began.
I have the "Dragons of Stormwreck Isle: Starter Set". After reading the instruction set and adventure book for days...I was finally ready as the DM or Dungeon Master. As this game doesn't have a gameboard, or anything the DM is the most important. He is the storyteller of the game, he also plays the enemies and all the monsters you will face! Being the DM, you should know the whole adventure as you will be the one who's leading the player through the game.
One of the days I was researching, I came across a YouTube channel: Bob World Builder, which explained the WHOLE adventure. I got Bob's Gmail ID through the channel and asked some of the doubts I had about the game. Guess what? next day: HE REPLIED!!!
yup. HE FREAKING REPLIED!!! it was awesome:)
Our first session was unforgettable. We started with the players on a ship, rowing towards an island called: Dragon's Rest. They first introduced themselves and one of them was called Mufasa😂 and the other Chandler Bing, these people were downright hilarious!
Being the DM was nerve-wracking at first, but then it became rewarding when I saw my players working as a team and making creative decisions. It was challenging to keep track of all the rules and narrate at the same time, but it felt like being both a director and a storyteller.
But the best highlight was when I realised that during many times of combat, my players didn't just fight and win but thought of such crazy ideas to defeat the monsters. Like this one time, when they were facing a Fire Snake named Ron Weasley, it just said that it was extremely hungry and that is why it was clinging and feisting on Chandler's leg, so instead of killing it, one of my characters decided to feed it bread that he had in his equipment. Guess what? the snake agreed! but it said DOUBLE IT!!! and then he gave it 2 loaves of bread and Chandler's leg was free😂
I can't wait for the next session! If you're up for a game, don't forget to leave a comment and you'll get a chance to play!!!!(or even be the DM😉)
This experience has taught me so much from leadership to improvisation, I covered it all! Who knew that rolling dice could be this cool?
Thanks for mentioning my channel! Happy to help! - Bob
